This is educational only — not a recommendation, a quote, or a guarantee of coverage. The right policy depends on your full situation and health, and final pricing is set by the carrier after underwriting. A licensed PolicySolutions agent will confirm what actually fits you.

The five main types, in plain English

Most people fit one of these — and many families combine two, like term for the mortgage years plus a smaller permanent policy for life.

Term life

Coverage for a set number of years (10–30). The most coverage per dollar, so it's the usual fit when you need to protect income or a mortgage for a specific window. More about term life →

Whole life

Permanent coverage that does not expire for as long as premiums are paid, and builds guaranteed cash value, for a higher premium. Fits lifelong needs and leaving a guaranteed benefit. More about whole life →

Final expense

A smaller whole-life policy, often simplified or guaranteed issue, built to cover funeral and end-of-life costs — common for seniors or those with health conditions. More about final expense →

Indexed universal life (IUL)

Permanent coverage with cash value tied to a market index (with caps and floors). More complex; suited to long-term, tax-deferred accumulation goals — tax-deferred is not tax-free — always reviewed with a personalized illustration. More about IUL →

Mortgage protection

Term coverage sized to your mortgage so the home is paid off if something happens to you. More about mortgage protection →
