Is building a life insurance practice right for you?

Before you spend time on an application, spend two minutes being honest with yourself. Answer six quick questions and we'll give you a straight read on whether this producer path fits your situation and temperament — not a sales pitch. This is a self-check about fit, not a promise about income, and nothing is saved. If it looks like a fit, the next step is the careers page, where the actual application lives — or read the short version: the system, the math, and the honest trade-offs on one page.

This is a self-check about fit and expectations — not a job offer, not a promise of income, and not a guarantee of success. This is a commission-only (1099) producer opportunity: there is no salary, and what you earn depends entirely on your own effort, licensing, carrier appointments, and results. Commission sales is hard, and most people who try it do not stick with it. Nothing here is career or financial advice.

The realities, not the highlight reel

What this work actually asks of you.

We'd rather you opt out now than 90 days in. Here's the honest version — the same one we put on The Standard.

It's commission-only

There's no salary. Your income depends entirely on your effort, your license, your carrier appointments, and your results — and it can be uneven, especially early. We won't post income screenshots or promise you a number, because we can't honestly promise one.

Most people don't stick with it

Commission sales is genuinely hard, and a large share of people who start don't last. That's not a knock — it's just the truth of the work. The ones who do well are consistent on the slow days, not just the good ones.

A license is non-negotiable

Selling life insurance legally requires an active resident license, and appointments with each carrier. If you're not licensed yet, that's the first step — and a real one. We help you through contracting, but the license is on you.

What we actually provide

Inbound leads with context plus an outbound dial list, a real CRM and softphone, a neutral carrier bench, and compliance built in — so your time goes to helping families, not building your own funnel. The full Standard is here.

The short version

Who tends to do well here — and who doesn't.

Probably a fit if…

  • You're licensed, getting licensed, or genuinely willing to.
  • You can handle variable, commission-based income while you build.
  • You stay consistent when no one is watching your calendar.
  • You'd rather earn a family's trust than win a fast pitch.

Probably not, if…

  • You need a guaranteed salary or steady paycheck right now.
  • You're not willing to get licensed.
  • You want a shortcut or expect quick, easy money.
  • Staying self-directed without a manager over you is a real struggle.
Straight answers

Questions people ask before they apply.

Do I have to be licensed to apply?

Not to apply, but you do need a license to write business. We talk with agents who are already licensed and with people still in the licensing process. If you're not willing to get licensed at all, this particular path isn't a fit — insurance sales is a licensed profession.

Is there any salary or base pay?

This is a commission-only (1099) producer opportunity — there's no salary and no guaranteed income, and we won't pretend otherwise. What you earn depends on your own production, licensing, and carrier appointments. We discuss the commission split directly and in writing before you start.

Can I do this part-time?

Some people start part-time with consistent weekly hours. Be realistic: building a book is slower part-time, and consistency matters more than raw hours. Casual, on-and-off effort rarely builds anything — that's true here and in most commission work.

What if I've never sold anything?

A sales background helps, but it isn't a hard requirement. Customer-facing and relationship experience transfers well, and the craft is learnable with coaching. Expect a real learning curve, and be honest with yourself about whether you'll put in the reps.

Does this quiz decide anything?

No. Nothing is saved and no personal information is collected here — it's just a private gut-check for you. The actual application (with the required consent and contact details) lives on the careers page.

If it sounds like a fit, read The Standard — then apply.

No income promises, no hype. Just what we look for, what we provide, and a short application. We read every one, and we're selective on purpose.
